Project HONEY
project honey
Climate-vulnerable agriculture and chronic poverty trap rural families in cycles of economic insecurity while sustainable income opportunities like beekeeping remain out of reach.
In Sirajganj, families depend on unpredictable farming that fails when weather turns harsh. Women and unemployed youth lack the skills, equipment and market access needed to pursue eco-friendly beekeeping - a livelihood that could generate steady income and improve crop yields through pollination. Without these resources, communities remain locked in poverty with declining agricultural productivity.
Here’s what our investment* does
🐝 Establishes eco-friendly beekeeping enterprises
20 families receive 2 wooden hives each (10 bee boxes total), along with protective gear and bee colonies to start generating sustainable income from honey production.
💰 Creates steady income streams
Each family can earn 34,500 BDT annually (approximately 2,800-3,000 BDT monthly) from honey sales, with potential to increase income by expanding their hives over time.
📚 Builds beekeeping skills and expertise
Families receive 5-day professional training on modern apiculture, honey extraction, hive management and safe handling practices, plus ongoing mentorship and monitoring.
🌱 Enhances environmental sustainability
Beekeeping improves crop yields through enhanced pollination of mustard, mango, and litchi farms, creating ecological benefits alongside economic ones.
🏪 Opens market access
We create formal market linkages with buyers like Setara Agro and support cooperative sales, ensuring families can sell 1,500-2,000 kg of honey annually at fair prices through local, wholesale, and online channels.
